Delta Monarch Awards Scholarship to Spelling Bee Champion

The Asagba of Asaba, Delta State, Epiphany Azinge, awarded a full scholarship through university level to Chinedu Okediachi, who won a gold medal for Nigeria at the 2026 Spelling Bee World Cup held in Shanghai, China, from July 10 to July 20. The Nigeria Spelling Bee organization announced this gesture on its Facebook page, expressing gratitude for the monarch's commitment to education and its potential to inspire the community.

Okediachi, a student at Madonna International College, Asaba, was part of Team Nigeria, which made history as the first-ever representatives at the global tournament. The team also included Oluwadamilola Adeolu, Abdurrahman Yusuf, and Maryam Yusuf, who collectively secured the Gold Award in the Middle School Group Category.

They qualified after competing in the Nigeria Spelling Bee and the African Spelling Bee Championship in Harare, Zimbabwe. Adeolu emerged as champion of the Junior category at the continental qualifiers, while Nigeria placed second overall among participating nations.
