Delta Police Ensure Security for Democracy Day Celebrations

The Delta State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner Yemi Oyeniyi, has ordered a massive deployment of personnel to ensure the safety and security of residents during the Democracy Day celebrations on May 29, 2026. This initiative aims to protect lives and property, maintain public order, and guarantee a peaceful atmosphere for the festivities.

The security arrangements include the deployment of conventional police personnel, tactical teams, intelligence operations, and undercover officers strategically located at critical infrastructure, recreational centers, places of worship, and major highways. Commissioner Oyeniyi has called on residents to celebrate responsibly and to promptly report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station.

The police command reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property, warning against criminal elements who might attempt to exploit the celebrations for unlawful activities. Democracy Day, observed annually since 2000, marks the restoration of democracy in Nigeria in 1999.
