Democrats Flip Trump’s Hometown Florida House District

Emili Gregori, a Democrat, achieved a significant victory in a special election for Florida's House District, which includes Mar-a-Lago, the residence of former President Donald Trump. Gregori won against Republican Jon Mapl by a margin of 2-4 percentage points, securing 797 votes.

This election follows the resignation of Republican Mike Caruso, who left to become Palm Beach County's clerk. The win is interpreted as a shift in voter sentiment against Trump and the Republican Party, particularly as the midterm elections approach in November.

Heather William, from the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, noted the vulnerability of the district, which Trump won by 17 percentage points in 2020. The election results reflect a broader trend of Democrats flipping Republican-held seats, with notable wins in other areas like Miami.

The Democratic National Committee Chair, Ken Martin, emphasized the significance of this victory in Trump's backyard, suggesting a growing momentum for Democrats.
