Nigerian Dental Association Warns Against Fake Experts

The Nigerian Dental Association (NDA), represented by Dr. Emedom Melia, President, Dr.

Franklin Abhulimen, Secretary General, and Dr. Victor Nwabudike, Chairman of the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee, has issued a warning regarding the proliferation of fake online oral health experts.

They urge the public to verify oral health information and disregard claims made by individuals falsely presenting themselves as dental experts online. This warning follows a recent viral video featuring an individual claiming to be a doctor without providing proof of certification or registration with the NDA.

The association emphasizes that the small square or rectangular mark on the end of toothpaste tubes, known as the manufacturing eye mark, is not an indicator of safety. They clarify that the color of this mark does not determine the safety of the toothpaste, which should be evaluated based on scientific regulatory evidence.
