DHQ and Defence Correspondents Combat Misinformation Together

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) and the Defence Correspondents Association of Nigeria have united to combat misinformation and hostile propaganda that could undermine national security. Major General Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, assured the newly elected executive members of the association, led by President Sundai Odita, of the military's commitment to transparency and accurate information dissemination.

He emphasized the need for an open-door policy for journalists seeking clarification on military activities, while also noting that certain operational details may not be disclosed immediately due to security concerns. Onoja highlighted the critical role of media in shaping public perception and sustaining confidence in the armed forces.

He expressed concern over the spread of misinformation, particularly on social media, and called for closer cooperation between journalists and the military. Odita commended the DHQ for its inclusive engagement policies and urged regular operational briefings to help counter misinformation.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to establish a dedicated Defence Correspondents Press Centre to facilitate better media coordination.
