ONSA and DHQ Partner with DECAN to Combat Misinformation

The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Defence Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DECAN) to combat fake news and misinformation. This partnership was renewed during a courtesy visit by DECAN leadership, led by President Chief Odita Sundai, to ONSA.

Dr. Chido Onumah, Director of Defence Information, and Major General Samaila Uba, spoke about the importance of accurate reporting in national security.

The partnership aims to promote balanced reporting and enhance public understanding of security issues. DECAN plans to launch a quarterly public defense correspondent document in October 2026, detailing the activities and achievements of the armed forces.

Major General Uba emphasized the need for journalists to verify information and refrain from publishing classified military details that could compromise operations. The collaboration seeks to ensure effective communication on national security matters and strengthen the role of journalists in reporting security issues.
