Major General Uba Addresses Troop Allowance Delays

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has reiterated its commitment to the welfare of military personnel, as stated by Major General Samaila Uba, the Director of Defence Information. This commitment aligns with the command philosophy of Chief of Defence Staff General Olufemi Oluyede.

Uba addressed concerns regarding delayed allowance payments for Nigerian troops who recently completed missions in Sudan, The Gambia, and Guinea-Bissau. He clarified that the DHQ prioritizes personnel welfare and that payments are contingent upon receiving funds from the respective international organizations leading the missions.

The Sudan operation is United Nations-led, while those in The Gambia and Guinea-Bissau are led by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Uba confirmed that funds for the Sudan operation had been received, and affected troops were paid the previous week.

He assured that payments for troops returning from The Gambia and Guinea-Bissau would follow upon receipt of funds from ECOWAS. Uba emphasized that these allowances are separate from regular salaries and are paid promptly once funds are received.
