FG Orders Expulsion of Students Involved in Kidnapping

On Tuesday, the Federal Government, represented by Minister Alausa, ordered heads of tertiary institutions to expel any students found involved in kidnapping activities. This directive was issued during a meeting with the Pro-Chancellor and management of the Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa State, led by Lola Fibisola Akande.

Alausa stressed the importance of strengthening internal intelligence gathering and collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to ensure student safety both on and off campuses. He stated that while campuses are generally safe, recent off-campus incidents necessitate improved security measures.

Alausa warned that students involved in planning or participating in kidnappings have no place in educational institutions and must be dismissed after investigations. He reiterated the government's stance against negotiating with kidnappers and announced support for security projects through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) 2027 intervention programme.

Akande highlighted challenges such as hostel accommodation and insecurity at the university.
