Donald Duke Backs Opposition Unity for 2027 Elections

Donald Duke, the former Governor of Cross River State and current presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), announced his commitment to support any opposition candidate that arises from the ongoing efforts to unite opposition parties for the 2027 presidential election. This pledge was made during the G100 Summit of Nigeria’s Opposition Political Parties held in Abuja on Monday.

Duke emphasized that his personal political ambitions would not hinder the unification efforts, stating, “Whatever decision is arrived at today, I will not walk away.” The summit, organized by the G100 in collaboration with the Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives, included representatives from six opposition parties. Salihu Lukman, a representative of the G100, pointed out that the opposition's division in the previous election led to a loss of approximately 13 million votes, urging the need for cooperation and a structured agreement among the parties to avoid repeating past mistakes.
