Doncic Breaks Kobe Bryant's Points Record for Lakers

Luka Doncic broke the 20-year points record previously held by NBA legend Kobe Bryant for the Los Angeles Lakers by scoring 42 points in a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, leading to a 127-113 victory. Doncic's performance on March 5, 2023, allowed him to accumulate 579 points in a calendar month, surpassing Bryant's record of 578 points set in 2006.

Despite the record, Doncic stated that it doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things. The victory secured the Lakers' 15th win in their last 17 games, showcasing their strong performance.

Doncic's achievement is notable as he became the first player since Bryant to score 14 points against the Miami Heat. Additionally, LeBron James contributed to the Lakers' success, helping them clinch a playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Lakers coach JJ Redick praised James for his all-around contributions to the team.
