APC Denies Filing Petition Against Adeleke's Victory

On Monday, confusion erupted regarding a petition displayed at the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal that challenged Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election. The All Progressives Congress (APC) denied authorizing the petition, which was purportedly filed by its candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.

The tribunal secretary, Pefe Belemore, confirmed the receipt of two petitions dated September 5, 2026, related to the August 15 governorship election. However, APC lawyers, including Muideen Adeoye and Abiodun Layonu (SAN), asserted that neither Oyebamiji nor the party leadership approved the petition, calling its appearance at the tribunal strange.

Adeoye emphasized that the legal team and party hierarchy had agreed not to challenge the election outcome, stating, “We did not file any petition, either for the candidate or the party.” Layonu issued a statement denouncing the petition, expressing shock that documents were filed in their name without authorization. The APC urged its supporters and the public to disregard the unauthorized petition.
