Abbott Proposes Ban on H-1B Workers in Texas Schools

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has called for a ban on H-1B visa workers in public schools, expanding his earlier directive that froze H-1B hiring at public universities. Abbott expressed concerns about foreign influence in classrooms, specifically targeting Islamic and Chinese influences.

He referenced funding from Qatar for Arabic language programs and Confucius Classroom programs linked to the Chinese government. Abbott stated that Texas lawmakers should prohibit public schools from accepting foreign funding and employing H-1B workers, asserting that "zero Texas public school employees should be here on H-1B visas." He emphasized the need for educators to be Texans or Americans, criticizing the federal government's lack of control over H-1B visas.

Kate Bierly from the Texas Public Policy Foundation highlighted classroom materials related to Arabic programs that she deemed inappropriate. Abbott's proposals aim to ensure that the educational environment is free from what he describes as indoctrination by foreign ideologies.
