Ondo Monarch Urges Boundary Commission on Eba Island Dispute

Oba Samuel Adeoy, the monarch of Atijer Kingdom in Ilaj Local Government Area, Ondo State, has urged the National Boundary Commission (NBC) to intervene in the ongoing boundary dispute concerning Eba Island, which is claimed by both Ondo and Ogun states. During a meeting at his palace, he cautioned potential investors against purchasing land in the disputed area, emphasizing that it could affect the kingdom's interests.

The monarch condemned Ogun State's claims of ownership, asserting that the territory belongs to Ondo State. He noted that the controversy has intensified following the discovery of oil deposits on the island.

Mr. Kayod Ajulo, the Ondo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, described the dispute as astonishing, citing official records that recognize the island as part of Ondo State for decades.

Oba Adeoy called for the NBC to determine the boundary, stating that no state should unilaterally claim the territory. He stressed the need for federal government involvement to ensure the rights of the local communities are protected.
