Ex-lover Arrested for Murder of 23-Year-Old in Anambra

Chima Ofoeke has been arrested in Uga community, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, for the alleged murder of his 23-year-old former girlfriend, Mmesoma Umeorini. Ofoeke, reportedly from Ebonyi State, confessed to strangling Umeorini with her clothes in his room before placing her body in a bag and discarding it in a bush.
He attributed the murder to the breakdown of their relationship. Following his arrest, he led security operatives to the site where Umeorini's remains were found.
Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for further investigation. The Ebonyi Town Union Association, represented by President-General Amb. Moses Igwe, condemned the murder and expressed condolences to Umeorini's family.
Igwe urged for calm in Uga amid protests and emphasized that the actions of one individual should not reflect on the entire Ebonyi community.
