PDP Supporters Hospitalized After Thug Attack in Ebonyi

On a weekend in Ebonyi State, at least 10 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were hospitalized following an attack by suspected political thugs during a defection rally in Ikwuator Idembia, Ezza South local government area. The rally aimed to welcome Ifeanyi Nworie, a former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), into the PDP.

Eyewitnesses reported that the event, initially set for a village square, was disrupted by thugs wearing T-shirts with a federal lawmaker's photograph. After relocating the event to his private residence, the thugs allegedly assaulted attendees and vandalized property, including chairs, canopies, public address systems, and vehicles.

Mr. Chukwuma Igwe, the Ebonyi state PDP chairman, condemned the attack as an assault on democracy and urged security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force and the DSS, to investigate.

Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha, the Ebonyi state APC chairman, denied any involvement by his party members in the violence.
