Thugs Attack PDP Rally in Ebonyi, Injuring Supporters

On Saturday, during a rally in Ikwuator, Idembia, Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, ten members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were injured following an alleged attack by suspected political thugs. The rally was organized to welcome Chief Ifeanyi Nworie, a former member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who recently defected to the PDP.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers, wearing T-shirts with the photograph of a serving federal lawmaker, disrupted the rally at a roadside village square, leading to a relocation of the event to Nworie's private residence, where the assault continued. Property was destroyed, and several participants were injured.

Additionally, ten journalists from the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) were attacked while en route to cover the rally. The Ebonyi State PDP Chairman, Chukwuma Igwe, condemned the violence, calling it an assault on democracy and part of a pattern of intimidation against PDP supporters ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He urged security agencies to ensure protection for all political parties.
