Ebonyi Police Dismiss Viral Police Brutality Claims

The Ebonyi Police Command has refuted claims of police brutality depicted in a viral video, clarifying that the incident involved Mr. Oketa Chigozie, who rammed his unregistered vehicle into a police patrol van on September 11, 2026, in Ahiaofu. The police, represented by SP Joshua Ukandu, stated that the video, captioned “This police brutality becoming is too much,” was misleading.

During a routine patrol, officers flagged down Chigozie's vehicle for lacking a registration plate. Instead of complying, he collided with the patrol van and subsequently became verbally abusive.

After being taken to the station, Chigozie admitted to having purchased the vehicle the day before and expressed remorse for his actions, proposing to create an apology video for his followers. He was cautioned against driving the vehicle until it was properly registered.

The police urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are registered and warned against distorting lawful police actions on social media.
