Police Explain Actions During Peter Obi's Convoy Blockade

Cletus Nwadiogbu, the Commissioner of Police for the Benue State Police Command, addressed the recent blockade of Peter Obi's convoy during his visit to Benue State. The police were informed of Obi's visit at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Monday and deployed three escort vehicles and personnel led by an Assistant Commissioner of Police for his protection.

Despite this, a group of youths blocked Obi's movement, creating a potentially violent situation. Nwadiogbu stated that the police opted for tactical restraint to avoid loss of life and property damage.

Obi was safely escorted back to the airport without further incident. Nwadiogbu clarified that this restraint should not be seen as inaction, as the police launched intelligence-led operations, resulting in the arrest of 46 suspects connected to the blockade.

He emphasized the police's neutrality and the constitutional right to freedom of movement, warning against actions that could escalate political tensions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
