Ebonyi Governor Nwifuru Seeks Federal Disaster Relief Funds

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has requested the Nigerian government to provide disaster relief funds to help mitigate the impacts of natural disasters that have severely affected the state. During a meeting with members of the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Nwifuru emphasized the urgent need for assistance, citing numerous disasters, including wind and thunderstorms that have caused significant damage, such as unroofing buildings, including those within the government house.

He noted that the state has incurred substantial costs in rebuilding efforts and pointed out that mining activities have created serious environmental hazards without benefiting from mining licenses. Nwifuru expressed optimism that the ongoing nationwide revenue data collection would enhance the state's revenue.

He also mentioned the importance of accurate data collection to ensure fair distribution of national resources, as socio-economic realities evolve. Dr.

Henri Awuregu, the team leader, explained that the visit was part of the ongoing data verification exercise.
