Edo State Offers Free Malaria Treatment and Renovates Health Centres

The Edo State Government has implemented a policy making malaria testing and treatment free in all government hospitals across the state. This initiative, disclosed by Dr Andrew Iyamu, Special Adviser to Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo on Health, aims to improve healthcare access for residents without financial barriers.

The policy is set for a two-year duration, after which it will be reviewed. Additionally, the government has renovated 65 Primary Health Centres and 35 Secondary Health Centres across the 18 local government areas.

Efforts are also underway to address issues related to substandard health facilities, quackery, and counterfeit drugs. Dr Iyamu noted that the Eneghede General Hospital, which had been inactive for 19 years, has been renovated.

Furthermore, the governor's administration has recruited approximately 1,000 health workers to bolster healthcare services. Iyamu also mentioned the unfortunate passing of Alhaji Danjuma Garba, the late Special Adviser on Arewa, due to treatment from a fake doctor.
