Edo State Launches Initiative to Identify Genuine Farmers

The Edo State Government, led by Commissioner for Agriculture Jerri Uwangu, is launching a comprehensive farmer profiling initiative to identify genuine farmers and eradicate "political farming." This effort is part of a broader strategy to enhance agricultural productivity and ensure that interventions reach real farmers rather than politically connected individuals. The profiling exercise will embrace a cluster farm model aimed at boosting production on an economic scale.

Uwangu emphasized the importance of this initiative during a recent field engagement in Edo North, where he interacted directly with farmers across multiple local government areas. The government plans to establish modern storage and aggregation facilities across three senatorial districts to reduce post-harvest losses and stabilize market prices.

Additionally, strategic partnerships with verified off-takers are being developed to guarantee market access and ensure farmers receive fair value for their produce. The initiative is designed to align agricultural production with market demand and strengthen the value chain in Edo State.
