Edo NLC Factions Clash Over May Day Celebration Plans

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Edo State is experiencing significant division regarding the May Day celebration. Professor Mondai Igbafen, the chairman of the Edo NLC Caretaker Committee, stated that the current state of labor in Edo does not warrant a celebration, citing deep divisions within the labor movement.

He urged the public not to be misled by claims of a celebration, emphasizing that genuine labor leaders are focused on resolving the internal strife rather than celebrating. In contrast, Bernard Egwakid, the chairman of a rival faction, dismissed Igbafen's claims, asserting that workers in Edo are scheduled to participate in the May Day celebration at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, with the state governor expected to host the event.

This conflict highlights the ongoing struggles within the NLC in Edo State, as factions vie for legitimacy and control.
