Edun Inspires Young Boxers at Ikeja Championship

Wale Edun, the founder of the Lagos Box Hall of Fame and president of the Nigeria Boxing Federation, urged young boxers to maintain discipline and commitment during the Ikeja Division Championship held at Agege Stadium. The tournament, organized in collaboration with the Lagos Amateur Boxing Association, marked the beginning of the ibil division championship, which aims to culminate in the prestigious Governor's Belt competition by the end of the year.

Michael Bolarinwa emerged as the best boxer, winning the men's 50kg final against Taiwo Rokeeb with a unanimous 5-0 victory, earning a cash prize of N250,000. Edun emphasized that the division championship reflects the growth of grassroots boxing in Lagos, which began in 2009.

The championship will continue until the Governor's Belt is awarded in 2026, ensuring recognition for boxers' progress. Bolarinwa expressed his excitement about representing Nigeria, having previously won a silver medal at the 2023 National Youth Games and aiming for gold in the 2024 National Intermediate Games.
