Ogun State Prepares for National Intermediate Games

Ogun State is intensifying its preparations for the National Intermediate Games, scheduled to take place in Lagos from October 1 to 15. This initiative includes the completion of the 16th edition of the Wale Edun Boxing Hall of Fame, held at the Alake Sports Complex in Ijeja, Abeokuta.

The competition, sponsored by former Minister of Finance Wale Edun, aimed to prepare young boxers aged 15 to 19 for the upcoming national event. Notable results from the boxing bouts include Adedokun Basit defeating Oladele Waris in the 47kg class by a split decision of 3-2, and Adeniran Quyum winning against Najeem Rasaq in the 60kg category by a unanimous decision of 5-0.

In the female category, Ganiyat Lawal and Roqibat Alayande also secured victories by unanimous and split decisions, respectively. The Acting Director of Sports, Seyi Sonde, along with officials from the State Sports Council, attended the event.

The National Sports Commission introduced the National Intermediate Games to enhance the transition from grassroots to elite sports. Lagos State, the host, is also preparing, with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu overseeing facility inspections and rehabilitation work at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
