EFCC Arrests Fake Lawyer with Forged NBA Seal in Lagos

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested John Anoruo, a 55-year-old man, in Lagos for allegedly impersonating a legal practitioner and possessing a forged seal of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). The arrest occurred on April 20, 2026, following an investigation prompted by documents submitted to the EFCC that raised suspicions.

Preliminary findings indicated inconsistencies in the documents, including a withdrawal letter dated March 5, 2026, which bore a questionable seal. During interrogation, Anoruo allegedly admitted to obtaining the seal from an undisclosed business center in Lagos.

He claimed to have earned a law degree in 2018 from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, but admitted he did not attend the Nigerian Law School, which is a mandatory requirement to practice law in Nigeria. The EFCC confirmed that Anoruo would be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
