Eguavoen to Coach Super Falcons in Olympic Qualifiers

Augustine Eguavoen has been appointed as the interim head coach of the Super Falcons as they begin their qualification campaign for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. He will oversee the team's second-round qualifying matches against Comoros, scheduled for October 9 and 13, 2026, at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is actively searching for a permanent head coach. Eguavoen, known as 'Cerezo', has significant experience, having previously led the Super Eagles to a bronze medal at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations.

He will be supported by Christopher Danjuma, head coach of Nasarawa Amazons, as well as Olatunji Baruwa as goalkeeper trainer and Ayisat Yusuf as an assistant coach. Yusuf has a notable history with the national team, earning 68 caps and participating in four Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, three FIFA Women’s World Cups, and the 2008 Olympic Games.

Nigeria received a bye into the second round due to being one of the highest-ranked teams, while Comoros advanced after defeating Sudan 30-0 on aggregate.
