El-Shenawy Suspended for Four Matches After Referee Incident

Mohamed El-Shenawy, the veteran goalkeeper and captain of the Egyptian national team, has received a four-match suspension following an incident during a match between Al Ahli SC and Ceramica Cleopatra FC in the Egyptian Premier League. The incident occurred when El-Shenawy became involved after the final whistle, allegedly striking a match official amid heated discussions regarding a denied late penalty for handball during stoppage time.

The Egyptian Football Association confirmed the suspension, categorizing the incident as physical misconduct rather than violent conduct. This ban represents a significant setback for Al Ahli SC, who are currently in the playoff stage of the league, sitting third with 41 points, five points behind leaders Zamalek SC.

El-Shenawy's absence is particularly critical as he is expected to play a key role in the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
