Eight Nigerians Arrested in Ghana Drug Crackdown

The Ghana Police Service arrested eight Nigerians alongside 66 other suspects during a series of intelligence-led anti-narcotics operations in the Upper East Region. The first operation occurred on May 20, 2026, near the Ghana-Burkina Faso border, resulting in the arrest of 40 suspects, including 23 Ghanaians, eight Nigerians, six Burkinabe, one Malian, and one Togolese.

Authorities recovered narcotic substances and five motorbikes allegedly used for distribution. A subsequent operation on May 22, 2026, in Navrongo led to the arrest of an additional 34 suspects, comprising 32 males and two females, with the recovery of 11 motorbikes and various foreign cigarettes.

The arrested suspects were arraigned before the High Court, presided over by Justice Ernest Pascal Gemadzi, with 16 suspects remanded in police custody and expected to reappear in court on June 4, 2026. The police continue to investigate and profile the remaining 22 suspects.
