Ekiti Ex-Commissioner Leads GBV Combat Workshop for Boys

On Thursday, during a sensitization workshop in Ado Ekiti, Bunmi Dipo Salami, the former Commissioner for Integration and Inter-Governmental Affairs in Ekiti State, emphasized the importance of redefining masculinity to empower young men as allies in the fight against gender-based violence (GBV). The workshop, themed "Redefining Masculinity: Boys as Champions of Change to End GBV in Nigeria," was part of a program supported by the African Women’s Development Fund.

It aimed to engage 100 male students, 20 male teachers, and 10 secondary schools across Ekiti State, with plans to replicate the initiative nationwide. Salami highlighted the need to challenge traditional notions of masculinity and equip young men to foster empathy, respect, and commitment to gender equality.

The initiative is expected to significantly impact the reduction of GBV incidents and improve community engagement against such violence. The program also received support from various educational officials, including Dr.

Bimp Aderiy and Mr. Samuel Abodund.
