Ekiti State Prosecutes 55 for Sanitation Violations

The Ekiti State government has initiated legal action against 55 individuals for allegedly violating environmental sanitation regulations during the February monthly clean exercise. A statement issued on Monday by the Ekiti State Ministry of Environment indicated that the offenders were arraigned for breaching sanitation orders during restricted hours on Saturdays.

Magistrates presided over the cases, with 54 offenders fined, while one person was pardoned. Sundai Omoya, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, highlighted the initiative's aim to encourage residents to take responsibility for their environment and understand the importance of the exercise.

He warned that anyone found on the streets without a legitimate reason during restricted hours would face sanctions. Ayodel Aluko, the director of Environmental Health and Sanitation, emphasized the strong link between a clean environment and public health, noting that maintaining a clean environment is fundamental for healthy living and helps prevent disease outbreaks.
