Ekiti State's Revenue Reaches Record ₦2.75 Billion Monthly

Olaniran Olatona, the Executive Chairman of the Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service (EKIRS), announced that Ekiti State achieved its highest-ever monthly Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of ₦2.75 billion in June 2026. This remarkable growth occurred despite the suspension of tax enforcement since July 8, 2025, which was intended to test voluntary compliance under the new Federal Tax Administration laws.

Olatona reported that the state generated ₦27.09 billion in 2025, a 53.7% increase from ₦17.63 billion in 2024. Even after enforcement activities were paused, revenue collections rose, with ₦13.65 billion generated in the second half of 2025, surpassing the ₦13.44 billion collected in the first half when enforcement was active.

In the first half of 2026, Ekiti's revenue reached ₦15.60 billion, a 16% increase from the same period in 2025. Olatona attributed the growth to structural reforms, including digital payment platforms and an expanded Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) tax base, with PAYE accounting for 63% of total collections.
