Ekiti State Trains 30 Officers in Livestock Insemination

The Ekiti State Government is actively promoting modern livestock production methods, specifically artificial insemination, to enhance the genetic quality of local breeds. During the "Mass Artificial Insemination, Training and Induction of Inseminators in Ekiti State," held in Ado Ekiti, Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Ebenezer Boluwade, announced that 30 professionals from the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Departments are being trained as Artificial Insemination Technicians.
The initiative aims to improve livestock productivity, targeting 850 cows and 150 goats. Boluwade highlighted that the current livestock productivity is hampered by poor genetic quality and limited access to improved breeding services.
The artificial insemination program is designed to facilitate breed improvement, increase milk output, live weight gain, and enhance the resilience of beneficiary households. He urged participants to focus on the training, which is crucial for upgrading local ruminant breeds and improving their growth rates and disease resistance.
