Eko Bridge Repairs Estimated at N18 Billion, Says Umahi

The Federal Ministry of Works has revealed that the ongoing underwater repairs and additional components for Eko Bridge in Lagos State will amount to N18 billion. This announcement was made by Minister David Umahi during an inspection of the federal road bridge project.

The repairs have become necessary due to structural abuse, including illegal sand dredging activities beneath the bridge and repeated collisions with heavy-duty trucks. The ministry explained that the rehabilitation will involve replacing critical structural components and adopting engineering measures to ensure safety and quality standards.

Umahi assured that every stage of the project will be closely monitored to comply with approved engineering designs. The repairs are expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Furthermore, the ministry plans to establish a task force to curb illegal activities beneath the bridge and has disclosed that an additional N12 billion is being sought for emergency interventions to address critical defects.
