Lagos State Closes Eko Bridge for Urgent Repairs

The Lagos State Government has ordered the immediate closure of the outbound section of Eko Bridge to conduct urgent safety checks and repair work. This emergency shutdown will take effect on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, as announced by the Commissioner for Transport, Oluwaseun Osiyemi.

The closure will affect the outbound carriageway toward Lagos Island, while the inward lane heading towards the island will remain accessible to motorists. To reduce traffic disruption, drivers are advised to use alternative routes, particularly the Third Mainland Bridge, to reach their destinations.

Osiyemi assured residents that traffic officials and security personnel would be stationed across various points along the adjoining roads to maintain order and ensure a free flow of vehicles during the closure. Adequate traffic security personnel will be deployed along the alternative routes to guide motorists and facilitate smooth traffic flow.
