FCT Sports Council Announces Election Guidelines for Associations

The FCT Sports Council has unveiled guidelines for the election of 32 various sports associations in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with nominations open from April 1 to April 30. Luka Istifanu, the Director of Sports, disclosed this information during an event at the Cyprian Ekwensi Cultural Centre in Abuja.

Interested candidates can obtain nomination forms for free, provided they meet the minimum qualification of having an O-Level WAEC certificate. Istifanu expressed the council's commitment to restoring Abuja's position as a top sports hub in Nigeria, reflecting on the past three years of caretaker management that he believes has hindered sports development.

He noted the satisfactory performance of FCT athletes in national competitions and emphasized the importance of creating a conducive environment for the new board of associations to thrive. The council will thoroughly screen candidates to ensure that those with any blemishes are disqualified, with the new associations set to be inaugurated in May.
