New Tech to Safeguard Nigeria's Election Results Ahead of 2027

Bismark Adegbuyi, the former Postmaster General of Nigeria from 2016 to 2019 and current Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Grandview Digit, has unveiled a locally developed technology named Crylid to protect election results and strengthen public confidence in the electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections. In an open letter addressing Nigerian voters, Adegbuyi expressed concerns regarding Clause 60 of the amended Electoral Act, which allows for electronic transmission of results but also permits manual collation.

This dual approach has raised fears among voters and civil society groups about the transparency of the electoral process. Adegbuyi emphasized that the Crylid technology, which utilizes cryptographic methods, ensures the authenticity of poll unit results regardless of internet availability.

It records results with digital signatures and timestamps, allowing for independent verification even if connectivity issues arise. He noted that this technology complements existing electoral procedures rather than replacing them, aiming to enhance the credibility of Nigeria's electoral system.
