Senate Proceedings Stalled Over Election Timetable Motion

The Senate's proceedings were halted due to a motion concerning the election timetable, specifically regarding the Electoral Act 2022. Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe raised a point of order, prompting a consultation with the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

The motion aimed to overturn an earlier amendment and return the bill to the committee for fresh deliberation. Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele expressed concerns about the proposed date for the 2027 general elections, which is set for February 2027, conflicting with provisions that require elections to be scheduled no later than 360 days before the expiration of tenures.
