PDP Slams NASS for Amending Electoral Act, Calls It Betrayal

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the National Assembly's recent amendment to the Electoral Act, labeling it a "painful betrayal" of the trust of Nigerians. PDP spokesman Ini Ememobong issued a statement on Wednesday, expressing overwhelming dissatisfaction with the decision to remove the mandate for electronic transmission of election results from polling units.

Ememobong characterized this move as a calculated attempt to create opportunities for electoral manipulation and described the National Assembly's actions as anti-democratic. He criticized the sudden reversal by the Senate and House of Representatives regarding the 2022 Electoral Act amendments, which he claims undermines the foundational principles of legislative representation.

Ememobong further stated that the excuses provided by lawmakers are weak and illogical, amounting to an insult to Nigerian intelligence. The PDP has called on civil society organizations to join in expressing their displeasure against what they perceive as anti-democratic actions by the National Assembly.
