Almajiri-to-Tech Foundation Transforms 21 Children

The Almajiri-to-Tech Foundation has transformed 21 street-roaming children, known as Almajiri children, in northern Nigeria by providing them with technology skills over a six-month period. The graduation ceremony in Abuja showcased the children's newfound abilities, allowing them to perform tasks such as assembling computers and repairing electronic devices.

Founder Mr. Tim Akano financed the program with his own resources, contributing N100 million, as he believes in empowering vulnerable children. Akano aims to help take 30 million children off the streets by 2031 through a model that combines technology education, practical skills, and entrepreneurship.

He has appealed to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, for a fully equipped workshop to enable graduates to practice their skills. Khafilat Ogbara, recognized as the “Mother of Almajiri and Out-of-School Children,” endorsed the program, highlighting its potential for inclusive education.
