Tinubu Urges NLNG to Maximize Nigeria's Gas Reserves

On August 26, 2026, President Bola Tinubu met with the management of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), led by Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Engineer Adeleye Falade, at the State House. He urged NLNG to convert Nigeria's gas reserves into economic benefits, highlighting that the country flared over 203.9 billion standard cubic feet of natural gas in 2025.

Tinubu acknowledged NLNG's role in enhancing national revenue through international interest but stressed the importance of domestic energy solutions and pricing mechanisms to benefit ordinary Nigerians. Falade informed the President that NLNG had been operating at about 60 percent capacity due to suboptimal crude production, with all liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) production focused on the domestic market.

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) reported that gas flaring increased from 192.9 billion scf in 2024, making Nigeria one of the world's leading gas-flaring countries, with significant environmental and economic implications.
