Enforce Campus Master Plan Policy, NITP Tells NUC, NBTE

The Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) has urged the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE) to strictly enforce the policy requiring higher institutions to prepare and implement campus master plans. NITP's national president, Dr.

Ogbonna Chime, expressed concern over many universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education operating without approved campus master plans, leading to disorderly development. Chime emphasized the importance of having a master plan to guide physical growth and development.

The NITP also warned against mistaking Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for traditional planning and surveying, urging professionals with a strong background in the discipline to head GIS units to avoid conflicts of interest. The institute commended the federal government and various state governments for taking measures to actualize master plans and promote sustainable development.
