Enugu Driver and Conductor Assault Police, Steal Rifle

On July 9, at approximately 1:20 PM, a traffic police officer in Enugu was assaulted by a bus driver and conductor while on duty at Saint Roundabout along Abakaliki Road. The officer attempted to flag down a Mitsubishi L300 commercial bus, but instead of stopping, the driver accelerated, knocking down the officer.

During the ensuing pursuit, the suspects managed to snatch the officer's AK-47 rifle, which they later discarded from the vehicle as they fled. The Enugu State Police Command, through spokesperson Daniel Ndukw, confirmed that the rifle was recovered intact with its ammunition.

Commissioner of Police Mamman Giwa has ordered a comprehensive investigation and intensified efforts to arrest and prosecute the fleeing suspects. The public is urged to disregard misleading narratives and to report any information regarding the suspects, who are advised to surrender voluntarily.
