Enugu CP Orders Probe into Disruption of Political Rallies

On September 12, 2026, Enugu State Commissioner of Police Mamman Giwa ordered a thorough investigation into attacks on political gatherings in Nkanu West Local Government Area. The incidents involved armed hoodlums disrupting a Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) meeting at Ndiuno-Obuoffia, where two attendees were injured due to sporadic gunfire.

At a separate location, St. Joseph Primary School in Agbani, thugs destroyed canopies and chairs set up for a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rally. The police did not identify the attackers or their political affiliations, but there are allegations of involvement from suspected thugs linked to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Police spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe stated that Giwa directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department to ensure those responsible are apprehended. Following the incidents, police operatives were deployed to both locations to prevent further violence.

Notably, the organizers of the gatherings had not notified the police or requested security coverage prior to the events.
