NDC Condemns Attack on Members in Enugu State Meeting

The Enugu State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) condemned an alleged attack on its members during a ward meeting at Ihuani Awkunanaw in Obuofia, Nkanu Council Area. The incident, described as political thuggery, involved suspected political thugs who reportedly opened fire on the gathering, resulting in eight members sustaining gunshot injuries: Onovo Donald Ekene, Ngene Godwin Madueke, Ogbodo Gloria, Onovo Victor, Maduabuchi Ugwu, Nnaemeka Nelson, Chinonso Nwagbara, and Obinna Daniel Owo.

The party's media aide, Sampson Ukwu, stated that canopies, chairs, and other materials were vandalized. The NDC alleged that this attack was part of a broader pattern of violence against its members, referencing previous disruptions in Akpugo and Obe wards.

The party emphasized that such violence is unacceptable in a democratic society and urged security agencies to investigate and prosecute those responsible. Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa, the party's 2027 governorship candidate, called for calm among supporters and reaffirmed the party's commitment to peaceful campaigning.
