EU Endorses Morocco's Sahara Autonomy Plan for Resolution

On Thursday, Kaja Kalla, the Vice President of the European Commission and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union, announced the EU's support for Morocco's autonomy plan for the Sahara. This statement was made during her visit to Rabat, where she met with Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita.

Kalla emphasized that the EU considers Morocco's autonomy proposal as a genuine and feasible outcome for a final resolution to the regional dispute. The EU called upon all parties to engage in discussions without preconditions, based on Morocco's autonomy proposal, to achieve a final political solution.

The joint statement from the EU also expressed full support for the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797, which facilitates negotiations regarding Morocco's autonomy proposal. The EU's new position marks a significant step forward in international momentum, with strong backing from European countries for Morocco's autonomy initiative, culminating in the adoption of Resolution 2797 by the UN Security Council on October 31, 2025.
