UK Supports Morocco's Autonomy Plan for Sahara Peace

On Thursday, the United Kingdom's Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper, reaffirmed the country's support for Morocco's autonomy plan concerning the Sahara issue, describing it as a credible, viable, and pragmatic basis for peace. This reaffirmation came after Cooper's meeting with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita during her visit to London.

The UK’s stance aligns with the outcomes of the latest Morocco-UK strategic dialogue held in Rabat on June 1, 2025. A joint statement emphasized the need for parties to engage in an urgent political process under the auspices of the United Nations.

The UK will continue to act bilaterally and at various levels to support the resolution of the dispute. Additionally, Cooper welcomed the strong bilateral relations between the UK and Morocco, highlighting the importance of these ties for the people of both nations.

The UK aims to strengthen stability in North Africa and support the resolution of regional disputes.
