Czech Republic Backs Morocco's Sahara Autonomy Plan

The Czech Republic has officially supported Morocco's Autonomy Plan for the Sahara, as stated in a joint declaration signed in Rabat during a meeting between Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Petr Macinka. This visit marks Macinka's first to Morocco.

The declaration specifies that the Czech ambassador to Morocco will visit the Sahara region to prepare for Czech entrepreneurs' support of joint economic initiatives. Furthermore, the Czech Republic's embassy in Rabat will extend its consular coverage to the Sahara, aligning with its diplomatic stance on the region.

The Czech Republic welcomes the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797 (2025) and considers Morocco's 2007 autonomy proposal as a credible and realistic basis for achieving a mutually accepted political solution. The Czech Republic's position aligns with other European countries that have shown support for Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara, with 20 countries opening consulates in southern cities like Laayoun and Dakhla.
