Kenya Backs Morocco's Autonomy Plan for Western Sahara

Kenya has officially expressed its support for Morocco's autonomy plan regarding the Western Sahara dispute, describing it as a credible and realistic solution. This affirmation occurred during the first session of the Morocco-Kenya Joint Cooperation Commission, co-chaired by Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, and Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, on Thursday in Nairobi.

The joint communiqué highlighted Kenya's intent to cooperate with Morocco to promote the implementation of the autonomy plan, which is recognized as a sustainable approach to resolving the regional dispute. Kenya welcomed the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797, which enshrines the autonomy plan as a basis for mutual acceptance.

The statement also noted that Kenya's position aligns with growing global support for Morocco's autonomy plan, with several European countries and 20 nations opening consulates in the southern cities of Laayoun and Dakhla, further recognizing Morocco's sovereignty over Western Sahara.
