Remembering Professor Alfred Bandele Kasunmu, SAN

The passing of Professor Alfred Bandele Kasunmu, SAN, has created a significant void in the Nigerian legal profession and academic community. He was a distinguished scholar and public servant, having obtained his LL.B and LL.M degrees from University College London before being admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1964.

Professor Kasunmu was a pioneer lecturer at the University of Ife and later became a Professor of Law and Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Lagos in 1973. His tenure as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State from 1975 to 1978 is noted for its professionalism.

He was elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 1979, acknowledging his legal mastery and contributions. He was also an active member of the Black Table, a group of distinguished lawyers.

His close relationships with notable figures in the legal community, including Chief Rotimi Williams, were highlighted in tributes reflecting his influence and legacy.
