Usman Alkali Baba Withdraws from Yobe APC Governorship Race

Usman Alkali Baba, a retired Inspector General of Police, announced his withdrawal from the 2027 Yobe State governorship race on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). This decision was made public through a statement obtained from Punch on Wednesday.

Baba's withdrawal follows extensive consultations with political stakeholders across Yobe State, including meetings with Vice President Kashim Shettima and other senior political figures. He described the decision as difficult but necessary for the unity and stability of the APC ahead of the upcoming governorship primaries.

Baba urged party members to remain calm and support whoever emerges as the APC's gubernatorial candidate. His withdrawal comes less than 24 hours after Alhaji Lawan Kolo Geidam also exited the race, following discussions with members of a group of six APC governorship aspirants known as G-6.

Other aspirants still in the race include Ibrahim Muham Bomai, Mustapha Yunusa Maihaja, Bashir Sheriff Machina, and Kashim Musa Tumsah.
